The way we deal with change

Sunday, August 21, 2005: “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.” — Franklin D. Roosevelt

Life is all about change and our doubts concerning whether we can deal with it. We can’t avoid changes in our life. Change doesn’t have to be something bad to be hard to deal with. It is in our nature for our first reaction in dealing with change to be somewhat negative. We get upset. We put on mental brakes, attempting to hold our ground, refusing to move forward into the unknown. Yet change happens. Sometimes we just need a little more time to get used to the concept. Other times, we need to talk ourselves into it. Still other changes happen almost unobserved — like aging. It happens everyday that we wake up. Our bodies change, but it can take years for us to notice. Then one day we look in the mirror and we see the effects and wonder, “how did that happen to us?”

When the change that occurs is bad, such as being paralyzed, a heart attack, cancer or some other life altering occurrence, and it changes the way you must live your life — forever — it is even harder to get through. There are negative emotions to overcome and a realization must occur that you have no choice but to accept it and move forward. That’s when a positive attitude makes the difference.

The way we deal with the changes that come our way determines what our tomorrows will be like. Make the most of yours.

God Bless! Chris
